Life Jobs
There are many later in life jobs to consider, especially if you want something that not only compensates you monetarily but also emotionally and even spiritually. Many retired persons want employment that helps them pay the bills or afford extras while nourishing their interests and passions. This may mean working with animals, plants, people in need, art, music -- anything that you enjoy doing. There are lots of opportunities for live jobs that do more than just provide a paycheck. You can help yourself while helping others.
For example, working as a plant caretaker at a florist or nursery can be the perfect job for the avid gardener. Maybe you love animals. If so, consider working at a vet's office or even at an animal shelter. There are lots of opportunities for seniors who want to help those less fortunate. You could work for or even volunteer for your favorite nonprofit organization. There may also be home health care opportunities where you care for those in need in their homes. Even if you don't have medical experience you may be able to run errands and do light housekeeping.
Working part time at a school can be the perfect opportunity for someone recently retired. You can work as a cafeteria worker, office worker or even teacher's assistant. If you don't need to work but want to get out of the house and make a difference most every school and library welcomes volunteers. Even if you volunteer only a few hours a week it gets you out into the community and helps you make a difference for the better.
As you can see there are all kinds of later in life jobs to consider. You may want to check out the many online and print resources available from the AARP. Your local employment commission may also be able to help you obtain employment. Consider working with temp agencies, especially if you don't mind short term assignments. Temp agencies will place you where help is needed, sometimes the work turns out to be permanent but most of the time the temporary employee is only used for a certain duration of time before being let go. The good news is that the agencies can usually keep you pretty busy if that is what you want.
